To set up the client for snapdiff processing, first use the dsmc setpassword command to establish a user ID and password for the snapdiffoperation. The user ID and password must have root authority in order to performNAS/N-Series snapdiff operations. The NAS/N-Series file server volumes that arebeing NFS mounted for snapdiff operation must be exported with both root andread-write access for the AIX host being used.Use this option with an incremental backup of a NAS filer volume instead of asimple incremental or incremental with snapshotroot whenever the NAS filer isrunning ONTAP V7.3 or later, for performance reasons. Do not use the snapdiffand snapshotroot options together.Restriction: Incremental backup using snapshot difference is only available withthe 64-bit Tivoli Storage Manager client for AIX.The first time you perform an incremental backup with this option, a snapshot iscreated (the base snapshot) and a traditional incremental backup is performedusing this snapshot as the source. The name of the snapshot that is created isrecorded in the Tivoli Storage Manager database. The second time an incremental backup is run with this option, a newer snapshotis either created or an existing one is used to find the differences between thesetwo snapshots. This second snapshot is called the diffsnapshot. Tivoli StorageManager then incrementally backs up the files reported as changed by snapdiff to398 IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for UNIX and Linux Backup-Archive Clients Version 6.1: Installation and User’s Guide
