Client commands referenceArchiveImportant: Use an asterisk (*) instead of a question mark (?) as a wildcardcharacter when trying to match a pattern on a multibyte code page, to avoidunexpected results.Note: In batch mode, it is recommended that you enclose values containingwildcards in quotation marks. Otherwise, UNIX shells expand unquoted wildcards,and it is easy to exceed the 20 operand limit. It is more efficient to let the clientprocess wildcard file specifications because many fewer server interactions areneeded to complete the task. Retrieve the archived files to your workstation whenever youneed them again.Use the snapshotroot option with the archive command in conjunction with athird-party application that provides a snapshot of a logical volume, to associatethe data on the local snapshot with the real file space data that is stored on theTivoli Storage Manager server. ParametersfilespecSpecifies path and name of the file you want to archive. You can use wildcardsto specify groups of files or all the files in a directory. Separate filespecifications with a space. You can also use the filelist option to process a listof files. The Tivoli Storage Manager client opens the file you specify with thisoption and processes the list of files within according to the specific command.There is a limit of 20 operands. This is to prevent excessive sessions that arecaused when wildcards are expanded by the UNIX shell command processor.You can prevent shell expansion from causing you to go over the 20-operandlimit by placing quotation marks around your source filespec expansioncharacters.Note: Using quotation marks has the side affect of causing a no-query restore.You can use the removeoperandlimit option to specify that Tivoli StorageManager removes the 20-operand limit. If you specify the removeoperandlimitoption, the 20-operand limit is not enforced and is restricted only by availableresources or other operating system limits.optionsTable 70.
