PrefacePrefaceThe Global <strong>CCS</strong> Institute engaged ICF <strong>International</strong> and its partners: Aurecon; BradshawGeoscience Consultants (BGC); Energy Research Centre of Netherlands (ECN); IanMurray & Company (IMC); Howard Herzog; and Bill Senior <strong>to</strong> develop and propose aninternationally recognized definition of Carbon Dioxide Capture and S<strong>to</strong>rage <strong>Ready</strong> (<strong>CCS</strong><strong>Ready</strong>), and provide considerations and recommended practices for policymakers <strong>to</strong>develop and implement <strong>CCS</strong> <strong>Ready</strong> policy and programs (see <strong>CCS</strong> <strong>Ready</strong> Policy:Considerations and Recommended Practices for Policymakers). In the process of developing thedefinition and Considerations and Recommended Practices, ICF solicited worldwide peerinput through a series of international roundtable discussions. This document entitled<strong>Defining</strong> <strong>CCS</strong> <strong>Ready</strong>: <strong>An</strong> <strong>Approach</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>An</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Definition</strong> provides the basis for thedefinition. Along with the Considerations and Recommended Practices, this report will feedin<strong>to</strong> a workshop <strong>to</strong> be held by the Global <strong>CCS</strong> Institute and the Carbon SequestrationLeadership Forum (CSLF) in 2010.23 February 2010 iii
