Chapter 4: Storage Ready Plant DefinitionExhibit 4-2: Description of the Terminology for Geological Storage CapacityPressure Build-Up Limitations on Storage CapacitySource: Bradshaw Geoscience ConsultantsThe modelling and consideration of the implications of pressure build-up in reservoirs isimportant for understanding the fracture pressure and the limitations that pressure build-upmay have on storage capacity. The importance of the impact of pressure build-up on therate of injection, and its implications for capacity estimation has been discussed by Bradshawet al. 100 Subsequent studies have been able to better document and simulate the effect ofestimating storage capacity where there are issues associated with pressure build-up andlow permeability reservoirs.Van der Meer & Yavuz calculated the impact of pressure build-up in a reservoir where therewas moderate permeability (40 mD), which had the effect of raising the pressure above amaximum value, such that it resulted in up to a tenfold reduction in the proposed injectionplan. 101 Overall, at a number of potential sites, there was a threefold reduction compared withthe earlier estimations of storage capacity when pressure build-up was taken into account.100 Bradshaw, J., et al..
