Chapter 4: Storage Ready Plant DefinitionEducation and Appreciation of Geological SubtletiesBuilding Storage Ready plants requires all stakeholders to become more educated about thecomplexity, risks, and risk management approaches involved in geological storage of CO 2 .This is especially important for industries that have little exposure to subsurface processes,as they need to embrace and understand the subtleties, uncertainties, and complexities ofthe geological environment. For example, the coal industry (which depends on continueduse of coal) and the power industry (which will have to deal with the end result of thecombustion of coal) are not yet sufficiently knowledgeable, or have very little practicalexperience of dealing with deep subsurface matters or the issues of geological explorationand prospectivity for CO 2 storage.
