CENSUS RESULTS142.4.1 Area planted per holdingChart 2.15 shows the area planted per farm of themost important crops grown on large scale farms.Cash crops are grown in larger areas per farm thanannual food crops, e.g. Sisal, sugar cane, tea,cashew nut and coffee. The long rainy season normallycovers the whole country while the short rainy season isnormally found in few regions (Dar es Salaam, Pwani,Morogoro, Tanga, Kilimanjaro, Kagera, Mwanza,Lo ng R a inyMara, Kigoma, Zanzibar and parts of Mbeya, Arusha Season PlantedAre a (Ha ), 73,304,and Shinyanga regions). The region with the largest area planted per farm was Kilimanjaro (86.6 ha), Arusha(81.2 ha) and Kagera (61.0 ha).2.5.3 Crop typesCereals are the main annual crops grown in largescale farms in Tanzania, the area planted withcereals was 53,009 hectares (69% of the total areaplanted with annuals), followed by cash cropswith 15,225 hectares (19%), pulses with 6,555hectares (8%) and root and tubers with 2,264(3%).
