CENSUS RESULTS362.7.5 Method of irrigation applicationSix methods of irrigation application werecommonly used namely flood irrigation, pipe andsprinkler, hose reel sprinkler, center pivotsprinkler, linear boom irrigation and drip irrigation(Chart 2.81). Flood irrigation was used by thelargest number of farms (127 farms, 46%) followedby pipe and sprinkler (43 farms, 16%), linear boomirrigation (23 farms, 8%), horse reel sprinkler (16farms, 6%), drip irrigation (14 farms, 5%) andcenter point sprinkler (7 farms, 3%). Other meansof application contributed 16 percent of total farmsirrigating (Chart 2.81).Mbeya has the largest number of farms applyingflood irrigation (17%) followed Kilimanjaro(15%), Arusha (14.2%) and Ruvuma (10.2%). Theremaining 833 farms (69%) had no the facilities.Iringa was the only region where more than 50percent of the farms had erosion control or waterharvesting facilities.
