The production ofcoffee has increased from 2,105 tonnes in 1994/95 to 19,084 tonnes 2002/03. In the same period the yield increased from0.3 to 1.5 tonnes per hectare.Coffee is mainly produced in 3 regions. Arushahas the largest area planted with coffee (4,036ha, (34.6%). This is followed by Iringa (3,490ha, 29.9%) <strong>and</strong> Kilimanjaro (3,410 ha, 29.2%).The remaining 5.4 percent is grown in Mbeya(3.4%), Ruvuma (1.1%) <strong>and</strong> Manyara (0.9%). The average area planted with tea per tea growing farms was 302.4 hectares per farm <strong>and</strong> the averageyield obtained was 3.3 tonnes per hectare from a harvested area of 10,282 hectares.Production has dropped by 32 percent from 50,242 in 1994/95 to 33,978 tonnes in 2002/03. The yield also dropped from4.2 tonnes per hectare in 1994/95 to 3.3 tonnes per hectare in 2002/03. Tanga has the largest area planted with tea (4,351ha, 42.3%), followed by Iringa (3,050 ha, 29.7%), Kagera (1,635 ha, 15.9%) <strong>and</strong> Mbeya (1,228 ha, 11.9%).
