The majority of private and voluntary facilities have separate sitting and diningrooms (Table 6.15). However, the proportion is significantly lower in public geriatrichome/hospitals and district/community hospitals. Public geriatric hospitals/homesand district/community hospitals mostly have combined dining and sitting rooms.A separate room or rooms for meeting/entertaining visitors is available in 70 percent of all facilities, with the figure much higher in the private and voluntary sectorsthan in the public sector. Less than half of public geriatric homes/hospitals andonly 39 per cent of district/community hospitals have separate visiting rooms.As these public facilities are more likely to have communal wards, this lack ofprovision is likely to significantly impact on the ability of residents to maintainsocial relationships and/or develop new friendships. Provision for children visitinglong-stay facilities is poorly provided for, especially in public facilities. The availabilityof child friendly areas is highest in private nursing homes, with 18 per cent offacilities having a designated space for children.Table 6.15: Provision of various facilities and space by facility typeSeparatedining roomSeparatesitting roomCombinedsitting/diningCombinedsitting/receptionSeparatereceptionSeparatevisitingroomChildfriendly areaActivitiesroomAllfacilitiesPrivatenursinghomesPublichomes/hospitalsVoluntaryhomes/hospitalsDistrict/communityhospitalsWelfarehomes267 (82.9) 195 (96.1) 20 (52.6) 30 (88.2) 11 (33.3) 11 (78.6)270 (83.9) 194 (95.6) 22 (57.9) 32 (94.1) 13 (39.4) 9 (64.3)81 (25.2) 26 (12.8) 20 (52.6) 7 (20.6) 25 (75.8) 3 (21.4)36 (11.2) 26 (12.8) 4 (10.5) 3 (8.8) 3 (9.1) 0 (0.0)240 (74.5) 173 (85.2) 20 (52.6) 26 (76.5) 13 (39.4) 8 (57.1)224 (69.6) 162 (79.8) 18 (47.4) 26 (76.5) 13 (39.4) 5 (35.7)43 (13.4) 37 (18.2) 3 (7.9) 3 (8.8) 0 (0.0) 0 (0.0)91 (28.3) 52 (25.6) 10 (26.3) 19 (55.9) 6 (18.2) 4 (28.6)Other 54 (16.8) 40 (19.7) 3 (7.9) 7 (20.6) 3 (9.1) 1 (7.1)135N 322 203 38 34 33 14
