Successful treatment <strong>of</strong> NHL requires meticulous<br />

adherence to <strong>the</strong> treatment plan. Patients who<br />

sporadically receive treatment put <strong>the</strong>mselves at risk<br />

<strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> adverse effects <strong>of</strong> treatment but may receive<br />

little <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> benefit. Advise patients to take all <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong>ir medications exactly as prescribed and to attend<br />

all <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir scheduled chemo<strong>the</strong>rapy and follow-up<br />

clinic appointments.<br />

Different chemo<strong>the</strong>rapy regimens have different<br />

side effect pr<strong>of</strong>iles. Not all patients who receive<br />

chemo<strong>the</strong>rapy will be nauseous or lose <strong>the</strong>ir hair.<br />

Educate patients about <strong>the</strong> possible side effects <strong>of</strong><br />

chemo<strong>the</strong>rapy and o<strong>the</strong>r medications and advise<br />

<strong>the</strong>m to call <strong>the</strong>ir health care providers if <strong>the</strong>y<br />

develop <strong>the</strong>se.<br />

Encourage patients who are not taking ART to<br />

agree to start; emphasize <strong>the</strong> importance <strong>of</strong> close<br />

adherence.<br />

Emphasize to patients <strong>the</strong> importance <strong>of</strong><br />

medications in preventing OIs, if <strong>the</strong>se are indicated.<br />
