744 ADDRESS TO NEW MEMBERSAlso, I know one of the last things you want to hear is thatthere are other designations that can be helpful to your careerssuch as CFA, MBA, and CPA, to name a few. Some day youmight want to pursue one of these areas. Several of you havealready added MBA to your achievements and it will be veryhelpful.Please don’t get me wrong, the actuarial profession is a proudand meaningful one. It will do you well. Pursue it to the fullest.It has been ranked nationally as one of the best professions, ifnot the best. What it will be to you is the catalyst to provide youwith opportunities that will appear on your horizon. Give themconsideration. You never know where it will lead.I would be remiss if I did not briefly mention today’s worldof Sarbanes-Oxley and the political environment we live in. Actsyou may perform today according to a “normal course of businessenvironment” may be received differently in years to comeby others under a different set of rules or interpretations. Evenan outside auditor’s sign off may not be good enough. In anyevent, you may be involved in one or more transactions in thefuture. So be careful and be confident that you are participatingin a proper transaction. Even if you say this area is not reallyapplicable to what you currently do, it is in your best interestto follow current events and educate yourselves in order to beprepared if and when an applicable instance occurs.Lastly, do me a favor. Enjoy the day. You earned it.
