REPORT OF THE VICE PRESIDENT—ADMINISTRATIONThis report provides a one-year summary of <strong>Casualty</strong> <strong>Actuarial</strong><strong>Society</strong> activities since the 2004 CAS Annual Meeting. Iwill first comment on these activities as they relate to the organization’spurposes as stated in the CAS constitution, which areto:1. Advance the body of knowledge of actuarial science appliedto property, casualty, and similar risk exposures;2. Establish and maintain standards of qualifications for membership;3. Promote and maintain high standards of conduct and competencefor the members; and4. Increase the awareness of actuarial science.I will then provide a summary of other activities that may notrelate to a specific purpose, but are critical to the ongoing vitalityof the CAS. Finally, I will summarize the current status of ourfinances and key membership statistics.CAS ACTIVITIES1. Advance the body of knowledge of actuarial scienceapplied to property, casualty, and similar risk exposures.A significant step in achieving this goal came in <strong>2005</strong> whenthe CAS announced plans to launch a new peer-reviewed journal.The journal will publish practical research that can be applied bythe practicing actuary. Curtis Gary Dean was appointed editor inchief and Richard Fein, Dale Edlefson, and Gary Venter werenamed associate editors in charge of peer review, copy editing,and development, respectively. Following is the journal’s adoptedmission statement:780
