824 OBITUARIESCLYDE H. GRAVES1908—<strong>2005</strong>Clyde Graves died December 3, <strong>2005</strong> at the age of 97. Hewas born October 14, 1908 in Jackson, Mississippi. In 1928 hereceived his doctorate in mathematics from the University ofChicago. He then taught at Pennsylvania State College and, inWorld War II, worked as a statistician in the Office of PriceAdministration.He became a CAS Associate in 1951 and a CAS Fellow in1953. He worked as an actuary at the American Mutual InsuranceAlliance in Chicago, Illinois for over 25 years, retiring as a vicepresident in 1973. He served as the chairman of the Committeeon Informal Publications from 1954—1956 and as a member ofthe Publications Committee from 1954—1958, the Committee onProfessional Status from 1960—1963, and the Advisory Committeeto Department of Transportation from 1969—1970. He wrotethe Proceedings papers “The Uniform Statistical Plan for Fireand Allied Lines” (1953), “Implications of Sampling Theory forPackage Policy Ratemaking” (1967), and “Insurance InvestmentRegulations” (1969).In retirement, Graves joined the International Executive ServiceCorp and taught actuarial science in the Philippines andNigeria. He later taught at the University of Hartford in the1990s.)Graves is survived by five children, 14 grandchildren, andfive great-grandchildren. Graves was preceded in death by his10 older brothers and sisters, his wife, Jane McMaster, wife,Marie Reimer, and oldest son, John Kirk Graves.
