from the community, the subcommittee made significant changes to the standard,including clarification <strong>of</strong> rules in Part I, expansion <strong>of</strong> Part II, and removal <strong>of</strong> Part III (see<strong>Appendix</strong> B, pages 2-3).Despite these significant changes there remain some issues that the subcommittee did notaddress, which due to current circumstances within the archival community theypreferred to defer for a future revision.RECOMMENDATIONTHAT the revision <strong>of</strong> Describing Archives: A Content Standard as submitted by theStandards Committee on behalf <strong>of</strong> the Technical Subcommittee on DACS(<strong>Appendix</strong> A) be adopted.Support Statement: The revised version <strong>of</strong> Describing Archives: A Content Standard isan important refinement <strong>of</strong> the standard that advances archival standards in its expansion<strong>of</strong> the rules for describing the creators. These changes will support the advancement <strong>of</strong>efforts by the archival community to participate in or develop automated authoritynetworks. All requirements for Standards Committee review <strong>of</strong> this revision were met(see <strong>Appendix</strong> B).Fiscal Impact: Following approval <strong>of</strong> the revised Describing Archives: A ContentStandard, the <strong>Society</strong> will need to be involved in the printing and promotion <strong>of</strong> the newedition. There will also be significant involvement in the development <strong>of</strong> educational<strong>of</strong>ferings to support the standard and in facilitating the production <strong>of</strong> supporting products,such as a website for extended examples and other materials.<strong>Appendix</strong> A, the revised DACS text, begins on page 3 and spans 167 pages.<strong>Appendix</strong> B, the DACS Revision Summary, begins on page 170 and spans 158 pages.<strong>Appendix</strong> C, Bill Landis’ markup referenced on page 62 <strong>of</strong> <strong>Appendix</strong> B, begins on page329 and spans 347 pages.(Note: Uniform pagination was not applied because <strong>of</strong> the difference in formattingamong the documents.)Action: DACS Revision Page 2 <strong>of</strong> 2 0113-II-A-DACS
