Select the best available site for administrative storage. Separate stored equipment from equipment in use.Conspicuously mark the area "Administrative Storage."b. Covered space is preferred.c. Open sites should be improved hardstand, if available. Unimproved sites should be firm, well drained, and free ofexcessive vegetation.Storage Plana. Store equipment so as to provide maximum protection from the elements and access for inspection, maintenance,and exercising. Anticipate removal or deployment problems and take suitable precautions.b. Take into consideration environmental conditions, such as extreme heat and cold; high humidity; blowing sand,dust, or loose debris; soft ground; mud; heavy snows; or any combination thereof. Take adequate precautions inregard to environmental conditions.c. Establish a fire plan and provide for adequate fire-fighting equipment and personnel.NOTESteps d and e apply to the M101A2 and M101A3 trailers.d. Remove, fold, and stow the canvas cover assembly (para 2-16).e. Remove and stow the rack and tailgate assembly (para 2-16).Maintenance Services and Inspectiona. Prior to storage, perform the next scheduled Unit PMCS.b. Inspect and approve the equipment prior to storage. Do not place in storage equipment that is not missioncapable.Auxiliary Equipment and Basic Issue Itemsa. Process auxiliary equipment and basic issue items (Bll) simultaneously with the major item to which they areassigned.b. If possible, store auxiliary equipment and BII with the major item.c. If stored apart from the major item, mark auxiliary equipment and BII with tags indicating the major item and itsregistration or serial number and location, and store in protective-type enclosures. In addition, place a tag or listindicating the location of the removed items in a conspicuous place on the major item.Correction of Shortcomings and DeficienciesCorrect all shortcomings and deficiencies prior to storage, or obtain a deferment from the approving authority.4-123
