GERMAR RUDOLF · THE RUDOLF REPORTFig. 67: Sketch ofmorgue 1 (‘gaschamber’) ofcrematorium II inBirkenau with testsample taking locationsby F.A. Leuchter: 26• Samples 1,2,3,5 fromMasonry;• Sample 4 from the ceiling;• Sample 6 from the pillars;• Sample 7 from the debrison the ground.formed part of the alleged ‘gas chamber’and moreover was probably newly erectedduring the conversion to an air raid shelter,is remarkable. This result, approximately ashigh as the rest of the samples (includingthose from the foundation walls of crematoriumIV and V, built of unknown material)may largely be explained by three factors:1. Cyanide traces of this minimal order ofmagnitude may be present anywhere, which is, however, improbable.2. This air raid shelter, like all rooms inAuschwitz-Birkenau, was occasionallyfumigated with Zyklon B for disinfestationpurposes.3. Analytical values in this order of magnitude(near the detectable threshold)are not reproducible and therefore cannotbe interpreted due to the limited efficiencyof the method. They areequivalent to zero values. In view ofthe results to be discussed below, thisreason appears the most probable.According to Bailer, the high cyanidecontent of the control samples taken byLeuchter in the disinfestation wing is to beattributed either to an artifact, an error inthe sample taking, or an analytical error. Heunderstands an artifact to mean that the wallof the disinfestation wing was painted withblue paint, precisely, an Iron Blue paint, atan earlier time. Bailer further expresses theopinion that no Iron Blue could form in themasonry material due to the alkaline environment. In addition, the high cyanide contentof 1,050 mg per kg is said to mean that the walls consist 0.1% ofpigment, which in his opinion could not possibly be true. 505505 J.
