8. EVALUATION OF CHEMICAL ANALYSESTable 17: Cyanide concentrations in the masonry of‘gas chambers’/disinfestation chambersAccording to F.A. It was also established that an alkaline environmenteven supports the accumulation of cyanide and certain othersteps in the reaction towards the formation of Iron Blue. If one assumes,as an extreme case, a complete conversion of all iron compoundscontained in the masonry into pigment (1 to 2% iron content),the values found by Leuchter are even rather low. Whether the walls ofthe disinfestation wing were painted blue, i.e., whether a high cyanidecontent can only be found on the upper, i.e., the paint layer of the wall, will be discussed at a later time.Pressac opines that the low cyanide traces in the masonry of thecrematoria are the final proof of the existence of the ‘gas chambers,’since they are still detectable today after what was, in his opinion, app. 112-118249
