Hinsley is the official historian of the English crown.His book British Intelligence in the Second World War can be obtainedfrom the royal stationer’s office. There was a new edition in 1989. Onpage 673, Hinsley states that from 1942 the English were able to breakthe coded messages from the German concentration camps. The Englishfound that the main cause of death in the camps was illness.Hinsley reports that there were also shootings and hangings. The officialhistorical scientist of the English royal house states: “There was nomention of gassings in the decoded messages.”The State Attorney moved that this evidence, too, be refused onaccount of ‘common knowledge’. One more time, the court agreedwith the State Attorney. At this point, the trial was suspended. It resumedon October 22, 1992. Every time General Remer reentered thecourtroom after a pause in the proceedings, the public stood respectfully.Many remained sitting when the court entered, however.An expert witness is kept outThe defense surprised the court with an evidence physically presentin the court room, the technical expert Diplom-Chemist G. Rudolf.By the court’s rules of procedure, evidence that is physically presentcan not be refused, even on account of ‘common knowledge’. Thetechnical expert sat in the courtroom. He had researched the allegedgas chambers in Auschwitz from a physico-chemical point of view. Hehad taken samples of mortar and had them analyzed by the InstituteFresenius. Also he had conducted his own laboratory experiments inwhich he had gassed masonry with hydrogen cyanide. The expert witnesscould present scientific proof that the alleged gas chambers nevercame in contact with Zyklon B. The expert report prepared by the expertwitness was submitted to the court with the rest of the evidence.The expert witness could also prove that prisoner commandos couldnot have “gone into blue clouds of Zyklon B still hovering over thecorpses”, without having been killed themselves. This nonsensical testimonyon work in the midst of clouds of Zyklon B had been given byRichard Böck, the principal witness in the Auschwitz trial in Frankfurt.Thus Böck was asserting that the commando had been immune to ZyklonB. Yet the judge in the Auschwitz trial in Frankfurt believed that hehad proved the existence of gas chambers in Auschwitz with Böck’s361
