The attorney quoted theFrankfurter Allgemeine Zeitungnewspaper, as to how the judge inthis case would not regard the assaultas attempted murder or even asattempted manslaughter. She regarded it as a case of the African’smerely wanting to “teach the German a lesson.” This example of justicein modern day Germany that Dr. Schaller so graphically portrayedis reminiscent of the case of two Turks who stabbed an 18-year oldGerman in Berlin because the latter had blond hair. Both Turks hadalready been convicted of manslaughter, yet they received probation.For the 80-year old General Remer who published scientific papers,the State Attorney wants the ‘death sentence’. In the waiting room,people passed around articles from large German newspapers relatinghow foreign murderers, robbers and mankillers are set free becauseindictments cannot be prepared in time due to ‘shortage of staff’. Everyspectator was outraged that there was no shortage of judges to handlethe prosecution and indictment of an acknowledged national hero becauseof his publication of the truth. Dr. Schaller said further: “Toprosecute assertions of fact in the same way that murderers should beprosecuted—but today no longer are—will lead to social collapse.The state should take care that arguments are expressed in words.The truth does not need criminal justice. The truth will prevail of itsown power”, the attorney scolded the State Attorney.
