11. HUNTING GERMAR RUDOLFtranslate this outdated version of my report into English. Later he let itbe known that he would like to be reimbursed for his translation coststo the amount of $10,000.I had a more pleasant experience with an attorney in Austria, Dr.Herbert Schaller. In February, 1993, he asked me if he could have 100copies of the report to distribute discreetly in Austrian high society. Upto that point, I had made a total of 50 copies of the report by photocopierand glued in color photos by hand, which was an enormous labor. Itold the attorney that since my doctoral supervisor had begun to workon my dissertation, I had no time to make 100 copies for him. However,I agreed that he could make copies from the copy he had andcould distribute those—on the condition that he do so as discreetly as Imyself had done already without accompanying commentary andwithout public propaganda. As far as I know, Dr. Schaller did make and distribute 100 copiesin February or March, 1993. To this day, there has been no public reportof his action.Remer ActsAs fate would have it, the Austrian attorney Dr. Schaller was alsoone of Otto Ernst Remer’s defense attorneys. Remer must have heardabout the distribution of my report in Austria. Shortly thereafter, I wasinformed by one of Remer’s friends, and without Remer’s knowledge,as I found out later, concerning Remer’s intention to do in Germanywhat his lawyer had done in Austria. According to what I was told,Remer intended to do exactly as the Austrian had done. But becauseGermany is more than ten times larger than Austria, Remer and hisfriends intended to do their distribution activity more professionally byhaving my expert report printed instead of photocopied. Though Iknew this could put my PhD degree in jeopardy, I saw no reason tointervene. Naively I thought that Remer would stick to the rules theAustrian had followed, which were perhaps too natural to me to bepointed out specifically: the report must remain unaltered, no additionaltext, no public propaganda is to be made. As we shall see, theserules were not considered natural by Remer and his friends.319
