11. HUNTING GERMAR RUDOLFand the British National Party.[...]‘In Britain I work as an Holocaust revisionist 24 hours a day. Mywork has brought me into contact with people on the far Right. I havemet leading members of the National Front and the British NationalParty while I have been in England.’”In the worst tradition of yellow journalism, Hastings took individualwords and phrases totally out of context and rearranged them tosuit his sensationalistic purposes. Rudolf never uttered such sentences, with the exception of the sentence about working 24 hours a day forrevisionism. It is a fact that, in the spring of 1999, Rudolf met withNick Griffin and discussed Griffin’s experiences with the British justicesystem. The year before, Griffin was, among other things, accusedof having published an article with revisionist statements in a smallright-wing periodical edited by himself, but he had been acquitted. Becauseof Rudolf’s own exposed position, and because he had extensivelyreported on official censorship in his publication Vierteljahresheftefür freie Geschichtsforschung (VffG) before, Rudolf wasnaturally very interested in Griffin’s story, but he was not interested inGriffin’s organizational memberships or functions. Before this meeting,Rudolf was not aware that Griffin held a leading position in thenationalist British National Party. However, during the meeting, Griffininformed him that he aspired to chairmanship of the party, to whichposition he was subsequently elected. When asked by Hastingswhether he was in contact with members of the political right, Rudolfstraightforwardly told him of the conversation with Griffin. Hastingsused this to suggest to his readers that Rudolf had forged contacts withthe organizational leadership of the leading rightwing extremist partiesof England. But to the best of his knowledge, Rudolf has never madecontact with any member of the National Front.Hastings went so far as to interview Rudolf’s former landlady, whom he absurdly quoted as follows:“Sheila Evans, Rudolf’s former landlady, said: ‘I remember he saidhe was a writer working for journals in Germany. I was struck by howclean he left the house when he left. He stripped it bare. I think he wastrying to cover his tracks.’”In fact, when he negotiated the tenancy contract in July 1996, Rudolfhad told his landlady that he will write for a German periodical.(VffG first appeared in spring of 1997, published by the Flemish or-399
