About ahundred tons of lead are obtained every month from thesemines, and from each ton from fifteen to twenty ounces ofpure silver are extracted.Hamilton Waterfall is a picturesque bit, by the roadside, near the bridge. In rainy weather, it pours down a fulltorrent some thirty feet, over a ledge of clay schist, into awooded hollow. The view down the valley from this pointis very picturesque. It becomes more so as we descend ;and it is refreshing, after the desolate and treeless wildnessof the gi-anite district through which we have passed,to look upon such a rich combination of wood, water, and rock as here presents itself before us.At Foxdale, the tired pedestrian— for even when surroundedby scenery so charming, our physical powers willat last give way, and cry, " " Hold ! ! — may utilizethe new railway, recently opened to that village.
