On aclear day the mountains in the south of Scotland and in theLake district of England may be made out. Looking in theopposite direction, the tourist sees the great mass of NorthBarrule, not uncommonly with its " nightcap on," for mistsare frequent in this moist climate ; and, farther south, theoutline of the yet loftier Snaefell may be traced.A Uttle further, the road passes the Hihcrnian Inn, and thenit rims through the estate of Cardie Voar and by the littleChurch of the Dhoon, nestling in a pretty graveyard on theleft; and, passing the Granite Qiiarnj and the entrance to theDhoon Glen, bifurcates, both branches leading to Laxey, thechief features beyond which have been already fully described.Tliis sketch of the road will, in conjunction with oiu* map,enable our readers to follow more readily our directions forfinding the walks and drives branching out of it, which wewill now describe. And first of all we wiU pay a visitTO BALLURE GLEN, THE ALBERT TOWER,AND THE ELFIN GLEN.Ballure Glenconsidered by some as the finest in the island, and thoughIswe should be sorry to have to decide between the claims ofall its lovely vales to the title, we have no hesitation in sayingthat this can hold its own in the contest. It is accessibleirom the Douglas road, about half a mile from the MarketPlace. If the visitor turn down at Ballure Bridge, andfollow the course of the stream towards the hills, he will seeit to advantage. The overhanging trees, the romantic stream,and the abundant wild flowers justify the popular descriptionof the glen as a "fairy spot." In June, 1885, the WaterworksCompany completed the erection in the glen of anfxtensive reservoir, capable of supplying the requirementsof the inhabitants and visitors for a generation to come.When the shrubs and trees that have been planted increasein size, the beauty of the glen will once more assert itself overthe devices of art and scientific operations. The path leadsto the top of the fall, beyond which the glen is more open.Passing by the old reservoir of the Waterworks Company isa footpath leading to the most conspicuous object as weapproach Ramsey, and indeed for miles around
