The National <strong>and</strong> InfantSc]<strong>to</strong>ols, in Cliurcli Street, now occupy <strong>the</strong> former site <strong>of</strong> St.Peter's Church, which Lolouged <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Conf^regational body,but was purchased by <strong>the</strong> Episcopal authorities. At presentabove four Iniudred cliildrcu are educated in <strong>the</strong>m ; <strong>the</strong>y arewell supported, <strong>and</strong> take rank amongst <strong>the</strong> best schools <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> isl<strong>and</strong>. The Infants' School, at <strong>the</strong> Old Cross, was built in1873, at <strong>the</strong> sole cost <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ecv. G. Pa<strong>to</strong>n, chaplain <strong>of</strong> Piamsey.It is a substantial building, <strong>and</strong> capable <strong>of</strong> accommodatingabout seven hundred people, when it is arranged for entertainments,for which it is occasionally used. The WeslcyanSchools, on <strong>the</strong> Promenade, will accommodate about fivehundred children. There are, <strong>to</strong>o, numerous private schoolsfor all classes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> community. The o<strong>the</strong>r denominations have Sunday schools in<strong>the</strong>ir places <strong>of</strong> worship.There is a Reading <strong>and</strong> News Boom in Church Street,which is well supphed with <strong>the</strong> daily papers <strong>and</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r publications.The charge for admission is one penny.Before leaving Eamsey we must refer <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> charities <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> <strong>to</strong>wn, which are numerous <strong>and</strong> well supported. Theyconsist <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Dis-pensanj, <strong>the</strong> Home for Aged Poor, inChiu-ch Street, Central Relief Society, Soup Kitchens,Clothing Fund, Coal Fu7id, &c. They are managed bycommittees chosen from <strong>the</strong> various denominations in <strong>the</strong><strong>to</strong>wn, who work harmoniously <strong>to</strong>ge<strong>the</strong>r.
