Erlnvillc, a charming housebelonging <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Buchan family, is on <strong>the</strong> right, <strong>and</strong> on <strong>the</strong>opposite side, a little far<strong>the</strong>r on, is a beautiful thicklyplantedvalley. Visi<strong>to</strong>rs whobreak <strong>the</strong> journey at Kirk Michael, may enjoy delightfulshort excursions <strong>to</strong> this glen, which is intersected by ruralpaths, <strong>and</strong> supplied with wooden huts, where refreshmentsmay be obtained. The little stream which flows rapidlythrough <strong>the</strong> valley is formed by <strong>the</strong> union <strong>of</strong> two mountain<strong>to</strong>rrents, one <strong>of</strong> which rises on <strong>the</strong> side <strong>of</strong> Slicu-ne-Fraughane,<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r on <strong>the</strong> hill behind Cronk Urleigh. A slight extension<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> walk will afford a visit <strong>to</strong> two pretty waterfalls,Spooyl Vane (<strong>the</strong> white spout), <strong>and</strong> Ballashjr; <strong>the</strong>former has a fall <strong>of</strong> sixty feet.A plain building, inscribed " Court-liousc," ia at <strong>the</strong> entrance<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> episcopal village.Kirk Michael,wbcre <strong>the</strong> car makes a halt <strong>of</strong> some duration, <strong>to</strong> enable <strong>the</strong>passengers <strong>to</strong> refresh <strong>the</strong> inner man, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> tired quadrupeds<strong>to</strong> refresh <strong>the</strong> inner horse, <strong>and</strong> enjoy a little wellearnedrest. There are two inns, <strong>the</strong> ^litre <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> RoyalAlbert, well supplied with necessary vi<strong>and</strong>s <strong>and</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r comforts;<strong>and</strong> when <strong>the</strong> time arrives for making a fresh start on<strong>the</strong> journey, <strong>the</strong> <strong>to</strong>urist experiences an added capacity forenjoyment.All visi<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>to</strong> Kirk Michael, however, are not limited inrespect <strong>of</strong> time, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>y will do well <strong>to</strong> break <strong>the</strong> journeyhere, leaving <strong>the</strong> cars <strong>to</strong> take <strong>the</strong> road <strong>to</strong> liamsey without<strong>the</strong>m. A peculiar interest attaches <strong>to</strong> this locality, as <strong>the</strong>residence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bishop <strong>of</strong> Sodor <strong>and</strong> <strong>Man</strong>, <strong>and</strong> it is especiallyconnected with <strong>the</strong> memory <strong>of</strong> good Bishop Wilson, whosememory, after <strong>the</strong> lapse <strong>of</strong> nearly a hundred <strong>and</strong> thirty years,is preserved on <strong>the</strong> isl<strong>and</strong> with an almost increasing respect.We shall have much more <strong>to</strong> say about him presently.The village <strong>of</strong> Kirk Michael is a cheerful-looking Uttleplace, with shops, a post-<strong>of</strong>fice, <strong>and</strong> such conveniences, <strong>and</strong>sufficiently near <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> sea <strong>to</strong> permit visi<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>to</strong> enjoy a walkon a fine beach, or a sea-bath. The place enjoys an enviablereputation for salubrity, <strong>and</strong> is resorted <strong>to</strong> by convalescents,
