A market is held every Saturday ; it is generallywell supplied with dairy <strong>and</strong> farm produce, sold at <strong>the</strong> stallsby farmers' wives <strong>and</strong> daughters, fresh faced, smartly dressed,<strong>and</strong> pushing <strong>the</strong>ir trade in <strong>the</strong> pleasantest manner possible.Fish, fresh caught <strong>and</strong> radiant in colour, is generally abundant<strong>and</strong> cheap.Passing down Waterloo Bond, on leaving <strong>the</strong> MarketPlace, we notice <strong>the</strong> Grammar School, erected in 18G4.The WcsleTjan Chapel, <strong>the</strong> premises <strong>of</strong> DitmhelVs BanTxingCo. {Limited), <strong>the</strong> Almshouses, or Mysore Cottages, erectedby Miss Cubbon, 1863, <strong>and</strong> several terraces in pleasantpositions, are also features in this locality.Churches, Chapels, Institutions, &c,, in Ramsey.The Church <strong>of</strong> St. Paul's, in <strong>the</strong> Market Place, waserected, in 1819, by public subscription, aided by a donation<strong>of</strong> £300 from <strong>the</strong> Church Building Society, <strong>and</strong> was enlarged<strong>and</strong> repaired in 1844, <strong>and</strong> again in 1874, <strong>and</strong> has frequentlybeen beautified since that year. A large new organ waserected in 1883, <strong>and</strong> a surpliced choir with ca<strong>the</strong>dral serviceintroduced in 188M. All <strong>the</strong> seats are free <strong>and</strong> open. TheOld Cross Hall, t;icing Church Street, is <strong>the</strong> property <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>chaplain <strong>of</strong> Eamsey. It is an ornament <strong>to</strong> what was formerlya bleak <strong>and</strong> fi'owsy square. The pretty little chapel, dedicated<strong>to</strong> St. Mary, <strong>and</strong> commonly known as <strong>the</strong> Old Chapel,is at <strong>the</strong> foot <strong>of</strong> Albert or Frissell's Hill. Services are heldhere on Sunday afternoons from Whit Sunday until September.It is beautifully situated, <strong>and</strong> is crowded with <strong>the</strong>visi<strong>to</strong>rs in <strong>the</strong> summer months. The burial-place usuallyreceives <strong>the</strong> bones <strong>of</strong> those who are not <strong>of</strong> <strong>Man</strong>x birth. Theservices are well conducted, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> choir <strong>of</strong> St. Paul'sgenei'ally "lead" <strong>the</strong> singing. In S<strong>and</strong>y Road, in <strong>the</strong>nor<strong>the</strong>rn part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>to</strong>wn, at <strong>the</strong> <strong>to</strong>p <strong>of</strong> Bowring Street, isa pretty district church, St. Olavc's, built in 1801, <strong>and</strong>formerly' a chapel-<strong>of</strong>-ease <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> parish <strong>of</strong> Lezayre.The Wcsleyan Chapel, in Waterloo Eoad, has alreadybeen mentioned. There is also a large meeting-house <strong>and</strong>school near <strong>the</strong> Shipyard. The Boman Catholic Chapelst<strong>and</strong>s on <strong>the</strong> Shore, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Friviitive Methodist Chapel,in Chapel Lane, <strong>of</strong>f Waterloo Road. The United PresbyterianChurch is in Albert Street, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Seamen's Be<strong>the</strong>lat <strong>the</strong> west end <strong>of</strong> Parliament Street.llamscyis well supplied with both day <strong>and</strong> Sunday schools.The Grammar School, in Waterloo Eoad, is capable <strong>of</strong> ac-
