IMAGING AND IN WVO SPECTROSCOPIC APPLICATIONS
OF COMPUTER OPTIMIZED PULSE SEQUENCES

Computer optimization of entire pulse sequences, as opposed to
individual pulses, generates substantial improvements in slice profiles
for T2-weighted spin density images and other applications.
Sensitivities to spin density or relaxation gradients are included in the
optimization. We discuss the tradeoffs between different approaches to
computerized pulse shape optimization, and present results of clinical
trials which show peak power reductions and dramatically reduced
distortions for multislice imaging.
