SYMMETRY AND ANTISYMMETRY IN 2D NMR SPECTRA

The conditions for obtaining 2D spectra symmetric or
antisymmetric with respect to reflection about the
diagonal have been extended and generalized. They
can be formulated either in terms of the structure
of pulse sequences or in terms of the coherence
transfer pathways selected.
Recent results indicate that new experimental
techniques producing antisymmetric or asymmetric 2D
spectra can be of advantage in certain practical
situations. For example, experiments leading to
antisymmetric spectra often result in suppression of
uninformative and disturbing diagonal peaks.
