We have recently achieved very large 13C polarization via the Overhauser effect in
a one-dimensional organic charge transfer conductor with a narrow ESR spectrum
("30 milligauss width) which has permitted o~ervation of 1016 carbon-13 spins with
a single pulse at room temperature after a 1-second polarization period "High

In the trans form present in these composites, polyacetylene is a semiconductor
containing unpaired electron spins which exhibit-fast one-dimensional diffusion.
This leads to an Overhauser enhancement of the kind one might expect from a
