Cabaret Capital
Leipzig boasts the highest density of cabaret clubs in the whole of Germany –
and it has a long tradition. In the GDR era, the cabaret theatre critically
and politically satirised the so-called workers’ and peasants’ state. In the
last 20 years further stages and revue theatres have opened. The annual
highlight in the cabaret world is the LACHMESSE in October, Germany’s
biggest cabaret and small arts festival. One more thing: Experience an

Turn Night into Day!
After an eventful day with a stroll through
the city and shopping tour you should
certainly not go to bed early. You should
preferably plunge into Leipzig’s animated
nightlife! Whether in the glamorous
“Krystallpalast Varieté” variety theatre,
in the popular cabarets, the Centraltheater
or other theatrical performances and
with innumerable concerts – the cultural
scene is so eclectic that the choice is
occasionally difficult. And then there are
also over 1,400 restaurants, cafes and
bars waiting on you. Just about every -
thing is there for you: from high-class
gourmet cuisine, alternative student bar
to good middle-class tavern. The city’s
most popular “pub miles” are Barfußgäßchen
in the city centre, Gottschedstraße
in the “Schauspielviertel” (theatre
district) and the “Karli” characterised
by students on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße
in the southern suburbs. Party as long
as you want, because Leipzig has no
closing time!
