Situated in the middle of the “Drallewatsch“ pub mile, the rustic restaurant has been serving
up Saxon Gemütlichkeit and typical Saxon dishes, beers and wines since 1841. Past regulars
included Viktor Nestler, the creator of the “Trompeter von Säkkingen” (the Trumpeter of
Säkkingen) and Karl Zöllner, who was inspired to write his famous song “Das Wandern ist
des Müllers Lust” within these very walls.
Germany’s oldest coffeehouse has enjoyed the patronage of the great and the good since
1694. Robert Schumann was a regular customer, coming to meet up with the “Davidsbündler”
(League of David). Today’s visitor can now choose between three inviting storeys for long and
leisurely refreshment. Delights on offer include not only the famous “Scheelchen Heeßen”, but
also hearty Saxon cuisine. The third floor houses a coffee museum.
