Panorama Artwork in <strong>Leipzig</strong><br />

Marvel at the outstanding works of art in the former gasometer. The<br />

striking industrial monument, now the <strong>Leipzig</strong> Panometer, has been<br />

home to the world’s largest 360° panoramic painting since 2003.<br />

The creative mind behind the monumental circular images, as high as<br />

a ten-storey building, is the Berlin architect and artist Yadegar Asisi.<br />

Following on from the previous paintings (“AMAZONIA”, “Rome 312”<br />

and “8848 Everest 360˚”) there will be a new exhibition for <strong>2013</strong>:<br />

“<strong>Leipzig</strong> 1813 – In the Turmoil of the Battle of the Nations”.<br />

<strong>Leipzig</strong> – Experience History<br />

Over its 1,000-year history, <strong>Leipzig</strong> has often been the centre of great<br />

historical events, events which changed the face of Europe forever.<br />

In 1813, the Battle of the Nations ended here with the defeat of<br />

Napoleon, a decisive turning point in the wars of liberation. In 1989,<br />

<strong>Leipzig</strong> became the focal point for the Peaceful Revolution which<br />

signalled the beginning of the end of the GDR and paved the way to<br />

German reunification. Trace these and other historic events and get<br />

to know one of the most dynamic cities in Germany.<br />

In and around <strong>Leipzig</strong>, October <strong>2013</strong> will be a time of commemoration,<br />

celebration and participation. In the autumn of 1813 the Battle of the<br />

Nations sealed victory for the allied armies in the German Campaign against<br />

Napoleon. One hundred years later the Monument to the Battle of the Nations<br />

was officially unveiled. Take a tour of the historical sites of the Battle of the<br />

Nations, and don’t forget to drop in at the “Brauhaus Napoleon” inn, which<br />

dates all the way back to 1624.<br />
