Battle of the Nations 1813<br />
The Battle of the Nations in October 1813 was<br />
fought by 500,000 soldiers, making it one of the<br />
biggest and bloodiest battles in the history of warfare,<br />
and it was to be the turning point in the German Campaign against the armies of<br />
Napoleon. One hundred years later the Monument to the Battle of the Nations was<br />
officially unveiled. The bicentenary in <strong>2013</strong> will see the people of the city come<br />
together in <strong>Leipzig</strong> with academics and spiritual and political leaders from all over<br />
Europe to reflect collectively on the past and the future. There will also be historical<br />
re-enactments of scenes from the battle, exhibitions, and a conference for young<br />
people. The highlight of the commemoration will be a week-long festival in October<br />
