Battle of the Nations 1813
The Battle of the Nations in October 1813 was
fought by 500,000 soldiers, making it one of the
biggest and bloodiest battles in the history of warfare,
and it was to be the turning point in the German Campaign against the armies of
Napoleon. One hundred years later the Monument to the Battle of the Nations was
officially unveiled. The bicentenary in 2013 will see the people of the city come
together in Leipzig with academics and spiritual and political leaders from all over
Europe to reflect collectively on the past and the future. There will also be historical
re-enactments of scenes from the battle, exhibitions, and a conference for young
people. The highlight of the commemoration will be a week-long festival in October
2013 in celebration of international understanding. Don’t miss this special event:
