Battle of the Nations
In and around Leipzig, October 2013 will be a time of commemoration,
celebration and participation. The occasion is
a double anniversary: in the autumn of 1813, the German
Campaign of the Napoleonic Wars reached its climax with
the Battle of the Nations, which took place on the outskirts
of the city. One hundred years later the Monument to the
Battle of the Nations was officially unveiled.

Peaceful Revolution
In the autumn of 1989, the Leipzig Monday demonstrations
developed their own momentum which ultimately contributed
towards toppling the Socialist Unity Party of Germany’s
regime in the GDR. Learn more about the events of that time
and visit the originally preserved rooms of the former “Leipzig
District Administration for State Security” in the present-day
Memorial Museum in the “Round Corner” (Stasi Museum) or
the exhibition in the Forum of Contemporary History during
the course of a guided tour.
