Das Technologie- und Wirtschaftszentrum Delmenhorst (TWZ) ist auf dem
The Technology and Business Centre Delmenhorst (TWZ) is based
on the former Nordwolle premises.
171
boss of Top Glory Marine Service, a specialist for waste disposal
on ships, opted for the TGO. “We have settled here
with our company because networks are very important
for us. The centre supports us with its contacts to the business
and political sectors and to other young companies.”
Together with Oldenburg, other towns are also trying to
make it easier to implement innovative business ideas.
After all, economic development starts in people’s heads.
The North West region includes for example the TWZ
(Technology and Business Centre) Delmenhorst, the TZV
(Technology Centre Varel), the TZN (Technology Centre
Nordenham) and the Jade Innovation Centre in Wilhelms -
haven. After initially just working together informally, the
centres were brought together in the VTN (Association
of Technology Centres Lower Saxony) in 1997. One thing
has always been quite clear: “We’re partners, not rivals”,
emphasises Jürgen Bath.
Despite their cooperation, it doesn’t hurt the individual
sites to work at honing their own profile. TWZ Delmenhorst
for example acts as the focus for renewable energies
including photovoltaic systems, fine dust and pellet fuels
together with other regenerative raw materials. The TZV
and the TZN take up the long-standing tradition of aircraft
engineering in the North West. Many of the developments
produced jointly by leading researchers and industry in
the TZV should benefit the metalworking industry on an
international scale. In turn, the TZN brings together
companies, universities, research institutes, providers and
suppliers to work on application-related development
structures for composite production with a focus on carbon
reinforced plastic (CRP) and assembly technology.
The Jade Innovation Centre has gone in a completely
different direction: it is geared to the fields of medicine,
maritime research, biotechnology, natural science and
technology and offers not only office and conference suits
but also S1 laboratories, laboratory sculleries and analysis
equipment for joint use by companies mainly in the bio -
technology sector.
Even so, for a long time, the North West flourished unseen
as a region of inventors and thinkers. But following an
initiative by the political, administrative and business
sectors, priority has now been given to fostering innovative
company start-ups, as expressed for example in close
cooperation between the institutions in the Oldenburger
Land. Start-up companies in the North West find support
