Shipley College | 01274 327327 | enrolments@shipley.ac.uk | www.shipley.ac.uk PSYCHOLOGY TOPIC: DREAMS AND PERSONAL RESILIENCE WITH KEITH RICE No fee reduction available This course aims to build on the introductory course, ‘Understanding Yourself and Others’, by providing a more in-depth approach to key topic areas. They are for anyone who wants to explore their specific interest in one or more of the topics under discussion or simply build their knowledge of Psychology and the behavioural sciences. Attendance on the introductory course is helpful but not essential as recaps and additional study material will be provided. This course explores the nature of dreams in relation to sleep patterns, different explanations of dreaming, and what they may or may not mean. The second part of the course looks at how people deal with challenging and stressful situations and provides a number of therapeutic exercises participants can use to build up their personal resilience. All the Psychology courses are highly interactive and aim to engage participants at a practical level. Whilst they are intended to be enjoyable, the theories on which the sessions are based are academically robust and include both long-standing concepts as well as cutting-edge thinking. Hatha Yoga leads to better awareness of your body and mind and improves physical and mental health. Explore Asanas (postures) in detail, develop a deeper practice of Pranayama (breathing control) and increase your understanding and practice of meditation as well as learning more about the philosophy of yoga. This fun and energetic class will have participants burning approximately 400-1000 calories per session based on their fitness level. Its format is ‘intermittent training’, which is a combination of fast and slow rhythms. The dance routines help to tone the body and are a great cardio workout with only moderate impact. Bring a bottle of water, a towel and make sure to wear comfortable cushion soled shoes. Dancing shoes or jazz shoes (with split soles) are the best. These will enable the feet to move side to side and rotate on the floor. Most of all bring your voice, bring your spirit and bring your energy. It’s going to be a blast! I love coming to the class every week, everyone is so supportive of one another, and it’s a great class to be part of. I was recommended by my GP to take up the class and I am so glad I did.
