PRINCIPLES OF DEMENTIA CARE LEVEL 2 CERTIFICATE<br />

Do you work with individuals who have dementia as part of your day-to-day work or do you want to learn more about<br />

how to support and care for individuals who have dementia? If so, this is the course for you and it can also help improve<br />

your employment prospects. You cover areas such as person-centred care, the influence of positive communication<br />

methods, issues around the use of medication for those with dementia and the importance of offering appropriate<br />

activities. You must be 18 or over to enrol. This course is delivered via distance learning and will take 21 weeks to<br />

complete. You need to have a good level of English and will undertake an assessment to confirm your place. Students<br />

undertaking distance learning courses must be motivated to meet deadlines and be able to produce detailed quality<br />

work without supervision. Please note that although the majority of this course is delivered via distance learning, you<br />

will be expected to attend <strong>College</strong> on a Tuesday afternoon on alternate weeks, this will support you to achieve your<br />

qualification within your planned <strong>time</strong>scales. Admission is by a short, informal discussion - please phone 01274 327327 to<br />

HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE LEVEL 2 DIPLOMA<br />

This work-based course is the recognised qualification for people working in the Health and Social Care sector.<br />

There are three pathways, Generic, Dementia and Learning Disability. The course covers the skills required by a new<br />

care assistant, or enables a more experienced carer to obtain a qualification. Students must be 18 or over to enrol<br />

and you must have recently completed a minimum of 140 hours of voluntary or paid work experience in a health and<br />

social care setting before starting the course. As this course requires a good level of English, you will undertake an<br />

assessment during the first class to confirm your place. You will also need to have some basic ICT skills to undertake this<br />

course as you will be using an electronic portfolio, however if your ICT skills are weak please let us know and we can<br />

provide support with this. You will need to be working a minimum of 14 hours per week in a health and social care setting<br />

on a voluntary or paid work basis at the start of, and for the duration of this course, as you will be assessed in the<br />

workplace. We will need to obtain a reference from your employer prior to you starting on the course. You are expected<br />

to remain in the same setting for the length of the course. You will attend <strong>College</strong> 3 hours a week for 12 weeks to cover<br />

the mandatory units. After this <strong>time</strong> you will work one-to-one with your assessor to complete the remaining units for<br />

your qualification. This course can help improve your employment prospects and enable you to work in a variety of<br />

health and social care settings. You may also wish to progress to the Health & Social Care (Adults) Level 3 Diploma.<br />
