HORTICULTURE BTEC LEVEL 2 DIPLOMA<br />

This course is a great starting point to improve your career options whether you are looking for a new career, already<br />

working in the industry or want to develop your interest in the natural environment. You will learn how to maintain &<br />

propagate plants, understand how plants grow, use tools & machinery, as well as gain knowledge & understanding of<br />

the industry through talks & visits. Assessment is through portfolio and assignment work. This popular course can lead<br />

to employment in garden maintenance, landscaping or plant nurseries, or you can progress on to further qualifications.<br />

HORTICULTURE BTEC LEVEL 3 DIPLOMA (90 CREDIT)<br />

Level 3 Entitlement (or 19+ Advanced Learner Loan) may apply to you<br />

This course is ideal for anyone thinking of a career change or wanting to increase their horticultural skills and gain a<br />

recognised qualification. You will develop skills in decorative horticulture, hard landscaping and plant use & maintenance<br />

as well as plant & soil science. A specialist project will allow you the flexibility to study an area for either personal<br />

interest or career development. Assessment is through portfolio and assignment work requiring personal <strong>time</strong> to be<br />

set aside for homework. To apply you need a Level 2 qualification in a related course (including 4 GCSEs), relevant<br />

experience or a keen interest in horticulture.<br />

HORTICULTURE - WORK-BASED COURSES<br />

HORTICULTURE WORK-BASED LEVEL 2 DIPLOMA<br />

A 100% fee reduction may apply to you if in receipt of JSA or ESA (WRAG)<br />

This course is ideal if you want to gain work-based specialist skills and experience in horticulture. You will cover craft<br />

level practical skills including site preparation, maintenance of machinery, plant care, propagation, plant identification,<br />

amenity turf care and specialist horticulture options. You need to be working (full or part-<strong>time</strong>) in the industry in order<br />

to gain the practical experience required to complete the course. Assessment is through practical observation and a<br />

student portfolio. On successful completion of this course, you can progress on to the Horticulture Work-based Level 3<br />

Diploma or the Horticulture BTEC Level 3 Diploma. Admission is by a short, informal discussion - please phone<br />

HORTICULTURE WORK-BASED LEVEL 3 DIPLOMA<br />

Level 3 Entitlement (or 19+ Advanced Learner Loan) may apply to you<br />

This course is ideal if you want to increase your skills for a supervisory role or update your existing knowledge. You will<br />

need a full craft certificate or relevant experience in the industry. There are a number of options including Landscaping<br />

or Sports Turf. The Landscaping option includes surveying and assessing sites, garden design practices, plant<br />

knowledge, soft landscaping skills and managing oneself. The Sports Turf option involves all aspects of managing sports<br />

turf including soil, water and ancillary planted areas. You can progress on to the Horticulture BTEC Level 3 Diploma or on<br />

to a full-<strong>time</strong> or part-<strong>time</strong> degree.<br />
