ESOL - ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES
Is English your second language? Would you like to learn more? You will practise speaking and
listening, reading and writing and work towards a College certificate or formal qualifications.
Classes run at our College campus in Saltaire and in community venues across Bradford. Some community
venues also provide a crèche. Courses start in September and you will usually attend for one or two
sessions per week.
Interested? To join a class you will need to come and see us at an information session where you will
complete an initial assessment and have an interview with an ESOL tutor. Don’t worry if you don’t speak
a lot of English or if you can’t read or write very well. We just want to get to know you so we can help you
to choose the best class for you. To find out when the next information session is and join a class, please
call our Enrolments Team on 01274 327327 and say whether you want a class in Saltaire or in one of our
community based venues. You can then sign up for the course that best fits your level and your personal
circumstances.
NAME: EVNEET I AGE: 26
‘Having been hired as an administrator for the Bradford Talk English region and seeing our volunteers
have a go at teaching pre entry ESOL learners, it inspired me to want to teach. As soon as I heard about
the PGCE running at Shipley College I signed up. It’s a huge challenge to work full-time and study but
I would not look back. My fellow students and I have become so supportive of one another. I have
definitely caught the teaching bug.’
NAME: THOMAS I AGE: 23
‘GCSE English is something I need to become a Learning Support Assistant
in a school. I would recommend this course; I have lots of fun learning the
elements of English I need to achieve a good grade. The tutors are very
encouraging and supportive.’
