Council’s application for a rates rise, mooted during the local government election
campaign, is now confirmed, weeks after new mayor Amanda Findley led the Greens
council was “successful in proposing a 23 per cent above rate pegging increase in
rates over the next two years”.
Cr Guile said tongue-in-cheek he admits he got it wrong during the campaign when
he predicted a 21 per cent increase.
“The very thought was beyond belief that council could do this given the previous
increases that ratepayers had to deal with,” Cr Guile said.
