Although there are many who object to Rate increases it is very apparent that more
money is required to support infrastructure and assets within the Shoalhaven.
I personally have not had an increase in Salary in over five years however time
moves on and I am sure I am not the only one who can see the increasing need to
fund and maintain our area.
I am in favour of the Second proposal i.e increases over four years.
Extending beyond that does not effectively consider the nation's changes or
situation.
If we must have this astronomic rise I prefer the rise to occur over 4 years
My preferred option is to not have a rates rise at all. Why should we foot the bill for
someone else's poor money management, we couldn't demand an increase in our
salary if we were unable to keep to our household budget, why should the
Shoalhaven Council?
Until the Council can show that they can work within a budget they shouldn't get a
cent more. I'm sure the council would argue that costs are rising, they would be
right, but the cost of living for the ordinary person is a great deal more & the council
rates rise will make it even more difficult for ordinary people to make ends meet!
Council has a very limited budget to
meet the growing needs of the
community. If Council does not
increase the revenue it raises through
rates then services and facilities may
need to be reduced.
I am writing to formally object to your proposed rate increases. The proposed
increase is HUGE and I ask Council to reset its spending levels to match its current
income, plus CPI increases.
