is challenging and he takes pride
in the quality of a good product.
“When I put the right sound into
a soundless motion picture and
feelings add to the visual, I feel
good about it,” Traithep explains
and regards it as the fun part of
his work.
As a sound expert, what’s
his favourite movie? “Gravity,”
Traithep says firmly, after quick
contemplation. This sci-fi adventure
movie won many rewards for best
sound mixing and editing, and he
just loves the sound techniques
created specially for the movie to
make it perfect.
Traithep admits this profession
not only requires technical
knowledge, but also a good ear,
good auditory perception and an
ability to detect sounds. “Most
importantly, good taste matters.
We also sell quality. Those who
work fast without a sense of good
taste will not go far,” he adds.
Working in the sound
industry for more than 20 years
has established high personal
standards. “You cannot lie to
yourself. We tend to think that
what we do is already good
enough, when we can do better.
We need to set our standards
higher and do our best. With our
client and directors, we know
to do better for them. They may be
okay with the work but if we feel it
can be better, then more should be
done,” Traithep says.
Besides sound and music,
vinyl records are another love.
Admitting to always having been
crazy for them, his collection
began at a young age. Being able
to manufacture them became the
