the survey (Table 7.16). Ten percent reported discussing family planning with a fieldworker and 22% with
a provider at a health facility. In the past 12 months, 31% of nonusers had visited a health facility but did
not discuss family planning during that visit.
Patterns by background characteristics
• Women in rural areas are more likely than women in urban areas to have been visited by a fieldworker
who discussed family planning (11% and 6%, respectively) or to have discussed family planning
during a health facility visit (23% and 16%, respectively).
• Women in the Northern region (28%) are much more likely to have been visited by a fieldworker who
discussed family planning than women living in the Central or Southern regions (8% each). Women in
the Northern region are also more likely to have discussed family while visiting a health facility (30%)
than women in the Central or Southern regions (21% each).
• The percentage of women who discussed family planning either with a fieldworker or at a health
facility decreases with increasing level of education.
