Community workshop in Kuujjuaq<br />
During the last months, efforts have been made to open a community<br />
sewing centre in the back office of our Kuujjuaq boutique in order<br />
for seamstresses in the community to sew items for sale at Nunavik<br />
Creations.<br />

A workshop manager, Tiriisi Irniq Robertson, has been<br />
hired to welcome the ladies and provide them with this<br />
fully equipped sewing workshop. Experienced seamstresses<br />
will appreciate the workshop’s three industrial sewing<br />
machines: a fur sewing machine, a three threads and four<br />
threads overlock sewing machine, and a plain stitch sewing<br />
machine. Also a computerized embroidery sewing machine<br />
and a domestic multi-stitch machine are now available. We<br />
also plan to get a leather sewing machine.<br />
Another one of the Kuujjuaq workshop’s objectives is<br />
to create sewing work opportunities for women of Nunavik<br />
by providing them with fur, fabric and notions for sewing<br />
mitts, slippers, crafts and other products. Tiriisi is in charge<br />
of preparing work orders along with the supplies required<br />
by the seamstresses. She will also sew products to customer<br />
specifications and will assist Pasha Partridge and Sarah May<br />
to respond to the clientele at the boutique.<br />
