New Jane Glassco Arctic Fellow<br />

Joseph Flowers, a ‘mixed Inuk-Anglo Canadian’ who is sponsored<br />

by the KSB’s post-secondary student support program to study Law<br />

at McGill University, is amongst the 14 new members of the Jane<br />

Glassco Arctic Fellowship.<br />

Thanks to this Fellowship,<br />

Joseph will be supported to<br />

work over the next two years<br />

on a project to “examine<br />

post-secondary sponsorship<br />

and support policies<br />

for Nunavimmiut”. He plans<br />

to undertake a qualitative<br />

study to examine the experience<br />

of post-secondary<br />

students who move south<br />

to study and look at the<br />

support networks available<br />

to students while studying<br />

away from home.<br />

In her announcement<br />

of the 14 fellowship winners,<br />

Nancy Karetak-Lindell,<br />

director of the Jane Glassco Arctic Fellowships, stated, “We were<br />

very impressed by the overall quality of more than 70 applications<br />

we received for the program, which made our task of<br />

selecting this first group of fellows a very difficult one…<br />

We are encouraged by the interest of our applicants<br />

from around the North and are reassured once again<br />

that our future is in good hands.”<br />

studies at l’Institut de Tourisme et d’Hôtellerie<br />

Soup: Melt the butter in a pot. Cook the onions in butter with apples<br />

until they are a bit brown. Put some salt in it. Add water or milk and<br />

boil. Puree this in a blender. Adjust thickness by adding more water,<br />

if necessary.<br />

Liver garnish: Melt some butter in a pan. Salt the liver, and put it in<br />

the pan. Cook it until it is rare (pink) in the middle. Put the soup into<br />

bowls. Cut the liver into pieces and put it on the soup. You can also<br />

add some croutons or herbs as garnish.
