A fishing trip organized for the Salluit elders<br />
on Lac François Malherbe provided the perfect<br />
opportunity for Xstrata Nickel – Raglan<br />
Mine representatives and the elders to meet<br />
and chat.<br />
The half-day on the lake was attended by<br />
a few of the mine’s employees and supervisors,<br />
who got the opportunity to experience unique<br />
interaction with the elders.<br />
Bad weather prevented the visitors from<br />
returning to Salluit in the time expected. The<br />
Katinniq complex housed part of the group for<br />
24 hours since the return to the fishing camp<br />
had become treacherous due to unstable ice.<br />
Although unfortunate, it provided an extended<br />
opportunity for the Katinniq community and<br />
Salluit elders to get to know one another.<br />
