Foreign visitors
sailed at Tra Su
cajuput forest
storks perch everywhere and fly
around. There were also crocodiles
at the sanctuary. We spent a day
visiting U Minh Ha National Park.
We also experienced the beauty
of the country's border area at
the Trem, Cai Tau and Doc rivers
and in the mangrove shades and
immense reed fields. Oc was
excited about the mischievous
monkeys she saw on the way.
Oc was deeply influenced by
what she saw with her own eyes
and felt with her senses. She
had many stories to tell when we
returned to Hanoi. That's what
we wanted to give our daughter
through this trip.
We left Ca Mau for the town
of Chau Doc. It was dark by
the time we arrived.
Chau Doc is the closest large town
to the Vietnamese/Cambodian
border crossing on the Mekong
River. The scorching heat
exhausted Thao and Oc, so we
changed our plan and stayed in
Chau Doc for two more days. We
rested and only went out when
the sun was no longer burning
hot. We visited the Ba temple and
Tra Su cajuput forest. The forest's
impressive ecological diversity
and wild natural beauty has
developed Tra Su into a popular
tourist destination in Chau Doc
- An Giang. Our boat tour zipped
us through a living carpet of water
lettuce adorned with green roselike
petals so densely packed that
we had to remind ourselves that
we were actually on water. We
were all enchanted by the forest's
picturesque scenery.
From Chau Doc we left for Ha
Tien, and took the Superdong
speed ferry to Phu Quoc
Phu Quoc is becoming famous for
its stunning beaches, untouched
natural environment, easy-going
and relaxed atmosphere, friendly
locals, and fantastic scuba diving
and snorkeling. The island offers
plenty of memorable experiences,
exciting activities and places to
visit that will keep you and your
family busy and entertained.
Unfortunately, it has recently
undergone excessive exploitation.
Oc spent a few days swimming in
the sea and relaxing to build up her
strength for the next destinations.
Thao was a little concerned that our
little girl was getting so tan, but I
thought it made her look stronger
and sturdier.
