On the morning of departure, my wife
and I woke up early to check our
luggage one final time. Oc still slept
soundly on the bed. When it was time
to leave, Thao gently scooped Oc into
her arms and carried her to the taxi that waited
outside. It was dark and cold.
Oc was awake by the time we pulled into the
parking lot at Noi Bai Airport, but was still
yawning. She pulled her own suitcase to the
check-in counter.
Quy Nhon welcomed us with
the cool and pleasant atmosphere of a
seaside city.
In Quy Nhon we stayed in a homestay near
the beach, and often woke up early to go on
beachside walks. Oc loved seeing small crabs
run across the sand.
We had a good time in Quy Nhon. The local
people were friendly and the accommodation
costs were quite reasonable. We often ate
noodles with fish or jellyfish for breakfast;
these dishes cost around VND20,000 -
25,000. After breakfast we liked to sit and
enjoy a cup of coffee while taking in the open
space and greenery of the area. A cup of coffee
cost VND12,000 - 17,000.
One of the highlights in Quy Nhon is Eo Gio.
My family loved visiting Eo Gio and hearing
the wind whispering through the cave walls
and mountains, harmonizing with the waves
crashing on the shore. Even the road to reach
Eo Gio was stunning. The bridge offers
a panoramic view of Thi Nai Lagoon and
peaceful Quy Nhon City. White sand dunes
speckled with trees line the street. Eo Gio is
beautiful with its rigid rock cliffs stretching
to the sea. The place seemed alive. The
mountains cradled the boat-studded sea while
the water leapt and danced. Waves crashed
onto the shore, singing a chaotic love song to
the birds twirling above them. The splendid
landscapes enchanted my little girl. "Sea!
Sea!", Oc exclaimed over and over.
The streets were deserted and
quiet in the evenings. Quy
Nhon's rhythm of life was
certainly much slower and
more leisurely than in Hanoi.
