Category 1 30m straight line, 30m slalom<br />

Category 2 100m race, 300m race, 500m race, 1000m race, 2x100m relay,<br />

2x200m relay, 4x100m relay<br />

2. Sport Uniform/Equipment<br />

� Speed skaters - shorts and short-sleeved shirts made <strong>of</strong> stretchy material,<br />

one or two-piece outfits; helmets required (per International Sport<br />

Federation regulations), knee and wrist pads optional.<br />

� There should be no midriff type shirts worn for speed events. The skin<br />

(stomach) area must be covered.<br />

� Relay teams must wear identical outfits.<br />

� Athletes wearing eyeglasses will need to wear eyeglass straps for practice<br />

and competition.<br />

� Skates can be traditional ‘quads’ (2 sets <strong>of</strong> 2 wheels on parallel front and<br />

back axles, placed under each foot) or ‘in-lines’ (3, 4 or 5 wheels placed in<br />

a single row under the center <strong>of</strong> each foot).<br />

o Leather boots are the best choice for competitors.<br />

o Toe-stops are necessary for speed skating starts.<br />

3. Points <strong>of</strong> Emphasis – Rules Conditions<br />

A wooden floor will be used as the <strong>of</strong>ficial competition field <strong>of</strong> play surface.<br />

1 Unified 2-person team. The <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Olympics</strong> athlete member <strong>of</strong> the crew<br />

will have complete responsibility for head sail trim.<br />

2 Unified 2-person team. The <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Olympics</strong> athlete member <strong>of</strong> the crew<br />

will control the helm for at least 100% <strong>of</strong> the race.<br />

3 All team members are <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Olympics</strong> athletes with an onboard coach.<br />

The athletes have complete control <strong>of</strong> the boat. The coach can <strong>of</strong>fer verbal<br />
