SOWSG ATHENS 2011 HOD <strong>Manual</strong> – 2 nd edition<br />
and prompt assistance during their registration and preparation for their journey to<br />
Athens.<br />
Definition <strong>of</strong> a Family Member:<br />
As Family Member for the <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Olympics</strong> ATHENS 2011 is considered any<br />
individual who is related to an athlete participating in the ATHENS 2011 <strong>Special</strong><br />
<strong>Olympics</strong> as follows:<br />
� The husband, wife, partner, child <strong>of</strong> the athlete<br />
� A blood relative <strong>of</strong> the athlete (i.e. mother, father, sibling, grandparent,<br />
uncle, aunt, nephew, niece, cousin and a relative related by marriage or a<br />
partner <strong>of</strong> a blood relative)<br />
� The athlete’s legal guardian, foster parent or care giver<br />
� An individual involved with the athlete in a parenting role<br />
Family Member Registration:<br />
Family Members should be registered in advance in order to receive benefits. Family<br />
Members also have the option to register on-site, upon their arrival in Greece. They<br />
need to have written approval <strong>of</strong> their National Family Coordinator with them.<br />
However, those registering on-site cannot be guaranteed a Family Welcome Pack.<br />
The benefits <strong>of</strong> registering as a Family Member are the following:<br />
1. Official Credentials that allow access to Family Areas and activities (the<br />
credentials will be distributed to Family Members in the Family Welcome<br />
Center)<br />
2. Free access to the ground public transportation network<br />
3. A Family Welcome Pack (distributed in the Family Welcome Center)<br />
4. Access to the Family Hospitality areas and to reserved Seating for Families<br />
within the venues<br />
5. Access to designated parking facilities in competition venues<br />
Unregistered Family Members will not have rights to the above-mentioned benefits.<br />
Family Welcome Center:<br />
In order to have access to the benefits, Family Members should display their<br />
credentials. The credentials will be distributed in the Family Welcome Center, which<br />
is the HELEXPO PALACE, at 39 Kifissias avenue.<br />
Family Members will have to present an <strong>of</strong>ficial document (passport/ID) in order to<br />
acquire their credentials and welcome packs. A Family Member is eligible to receive<br />
